Placenta previa
Also called: Low-lying placenta
A condition in which the placenta implants in the lower part of the uterus, partially or completely covering the cervix.
When it comes up: Second trimester (around week 20)
Often, the placenta moves upwards as the uterus grows during pregnancy. However, if it continues to cover the cervix until the end of pregnancy, it can cause severe bleeding, and you will need a safe cesarean delivery.
If you experience painless vaginal bleeding in the second half of your pregnancy, you must see your doctor immediately.
